What If Star Wars Episode I Was Actually Good?
This is absolutely fascinating. I was horribly disappointed in the prequels because they took what could have been an epic story and beat it with the Stupid Stick until it was barely clinging to life. I have always said that George Lucas has brilliant ideas, but is absolutely godawful at storytelling, and this is a beautiful example of that exact point. With a few deft touches and modest tweaks, the humdrum fanwank of a movie we were given is transformed into a tight, cohesive story rife with possibilities.
I got excited just listening to this man’s hypothetical synopsis. Disregarding my love of Star Wars, from a technical standpoint this plot is a beautiful thing, and it makes me weep that this is not the story that was told to us. Laying the foundation for the overarching plotline , conducting the action in a coherent way, setting up some beautiful relationships between Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme ripe with drama and tension… If this had been the actual movie — and the other prequel movies had followed the same vein — I would have every single Star Wars movie playing on a loop day and night for the rest of my life because I would never need another story.
